Box Score It's no secret that the Old Dominion Athletic Conference is full of powerful teams. Wednesday night the Lady Royals took on one of four ODAC teams which went to last year's NCAA Tournament, but played well before suffering a 6-1 loss to Roanoke College.
The Maroons built a 4-0 lead in the first half, scoring all of their goals from the 18th to 25th minutes. EMU got their only shot on goal of the half in the 34th minute, but Elisa Ott's (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) shot was saved by the RC keeper.
Roanoke pushed the edge to 6-0 midway through the second before Eastern Mennonite finally broke through. The Lady Royals earned a corner kick in the 63rd minute and Morgan Hill (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) lined up to kick the ball in. Her pass carried to senior Janna Kaufman (Friedens, PA/Johnstown Christian), who knocked a header back towards the goal. Nora Osei (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) used her height to get another head on it, pushing the ball into the net for her eighth goal of the season.
That was it for the fireworks, however, as neither team would score again.
Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, WA/Peninsula) had another busy night in net, collecting 15 saves, her third double-digit effort of the season.
The loss drops EMU to 3-4 on the year, including 0-2 in the ODAC. The Lady Royals will be looking for their first conference win when they host Guilford on Saturday with a 4:00pm start time.
