Box Score Over a month ago, EMU and Southern Virginia locked up in an epic battle in Harrisonburg, with SVU claiming a five-set win after a 19-17 final game. Wednesday night in Buena Vista, there were still wild swings but Eastern Mennonite lost again, this time 3-1.
The Knights broke off an early 6-6 tie in game one to streak to a 25-12 win. EMU regrouped in game two, and inflated a small edge to a 16-10 cushion. The women never let up and rolled to a 25-17 decision to even the games at 1-1.
But the home team landed early knock-out punches in games three and four, closing the night with 25-12 and 25-17 wins.
Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) worked her way to 11 kills to lead EMU. Setter Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) was second on the team with five kills along with her 19 assists. Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) had four kills and three service aces to go with a solo block and a block assist.
Katie Miller (San Antonio, TX/Brandeis) had 13 digs to lead the back row.
The loss drops Eastern Mennonite to 4-18. The women wrap up their year on Saturday by hosting Mary Washington. Start time is 1:00pm on Senior Day.
