Box Score Playing their final ODAC contest of the 2012 season, the Lady Royals lost 3-0 at Randolph College in Lynchburg, leaving them without a conference win.
Eastern Mennonite was again playing without leading hitter Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby), who missed the weekend with a family commitment. The women's adjustment in game one against the WildCats was a tough one, as the home team streaked to a 25-11 win.
Randolph jumped to a 6-1 lead in game two, and EMU stayed close but couldn't recover. They got with two points late before falling 25-20.
The Lady Royals used an 8-0 run to vault to a 12-8 lead in game three. RC recovered and the two teams battled neck and neck to the finish, with the WildCats scoring the final three of the game to win 25-21.
Outside hitter Amber Loftin (Amherst, VA/Amherst) had a solid contest, leading the women with 14 kills. Kayla Smeltzer (Richmond, VA/Maggie L. Wagner) had nine swats and Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) finished with eight. Setter Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) notched a double double with 26 assists and 13 digs.
Katie Miller (San Antonio, TX/Brandeis) and Karla Martin (Stuarts Draft, VA/Grace Christian) each had 13 digs as well as the trio co-led both teams. Lehman added a pair of service aces.
The loss sinks the Lady Royals to 4-17 overall and 0-11 in ODAC play. EMU ends the year with two non-conference matches next week, at Southern Virginia on Wednesday and hosting Mary Washington next Saturday.
