Box Score The Lady Royals ran into a Roanoke team which didn't make a lot of mistakes Tuesday night. The EMU women were in every game, but came up short 3-0.
The Maroons never trailed in game one but also never had a big lead. The visitors scored the final two points to claim a 25-19 decision.
The momentum carried into game two, with Roanoke sprinting to an 18-10 lead. The Lady Royals answered with a 7-2 spurt, getting within 20-17 before RC closed the door on a 25-21 win.
Eastern Mennonite used a 5-0 run early in game three to jump ahead 8-4. The Maroons fought back to tie the score at 11-11 but the women wouldn't give up the lead. EMU still led 18-17, but Roanoke then rattled off eight in a row to close the night with a 25-18 win.
The Lady Royals hit a solid .148 as a team, led by 10 kills from Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby). Senior Karla Martin (Stuarts Draft, VA/Grace Christian) added nine kills and 17 digs. Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) had six kills and a solo block. Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) finished with 28 assists.
Libero Katie Miller (San Antonio, TX/Brandeis) matched Martin's 17 digs to co-lead both teams.
The loss drop EMU to 4-15 overall and 0-9 in the ODAC. The women travel to Lynchburg this weekend, taking on the Hornets Friday night followed by Randolph College Saturday morning.
