Box Score After three games, the Lady Royals are still looking for their first goal. The soccer women were at Shenandoah Wednesday night and again struggled to get good looks at the goal in a 1-0 loss to the Hornets.
Despite getting out-shot 8-1 in the first 45 minutes, Eastern Mennonite managed to keep the contest scoreless at the break. Keeper Jenni Beck (Archbold, OH/Archbold) had three saves in the stanza, but the real challenge would come in the second.
Shenandoah controlled the opening ticks on the period and scored the game's lone goal after three consecutive corner kicks. Hannah Oakes got the tally in the 59th minute.
SU continued to fire shots, but Beck kept making plays to keep her team in it. Taylor Wenger (New Holland, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) put a shot on goal in the 66th minute and Laura Beckler (Richmond, VA/Atlee) had a good look in the 85th, but the saves spelled the loss for EMU.
Beck finished with 10 saves, her second double digit effort of the season. The Hornets had a 28-4 edge in shots, including 11-2 in shots on goal.
The young Lady Royals slip to 0-3 with the defeat and will be in Fredericksburg, VA, this weekend. They take on Alvernia Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm and Methodist Sunday at 12:30pm.
