Lady Royals Fall To Mary Washington On Day Two Of Classic

Box Score

The Eastern Mennonite women's volleyball team opened up play on day two of the Hampton Inn & Sleep Inn Classic Saturday morning with a match against Mary Washington.  The tall Eagles got the best of EMU, grabbing a 3-0 sweep.

The Lady Royals had a couple of early leads in game one before UMW took over in a 25-18 win.

EMU scored four of the first five points in the next game, and held a 16-12 lead after a service ace from freshman Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian).  But the Eagles grabbed the lead by scoring the next five points, and held off the women for a tight 25-22 final.

The visitors were in control all of game three as the Lady Royals never scored more than two points in a row.  UMW wrapped up the match with a 25-17 win.

Senior Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) led all players with 11 kills.  Kyla Moorefield (Danville, VA/Tunstall) added seven.

Lehman finished with teams highs of 15 assists and two service aces.

The loss drops EMU to 1-2 on the young season.  The women wrap up their play at the Classic later this afternoon when they play Mary Baldwin at 4:00pm.
