For the second time this year, the soccer women took a game into overtime.  But Randolph-Macon topped the Lady Royals in Ashland Tuesday afternoon, leaving EMU still in search of their first victory.

The Yellow Jackets came out buzzing, firing 13 shots in the first half, but only scoring once.

Eastern Mennonite didn't get its first look at the goal until the second half, but they made it count.  Michelle Miller (Sarasota, FL/Sarasota Christian) made a run in the opening minute and skimmed a long shot off RMC's keeper to knot the score at 1-1.

The women nearly took the lead three minutes later.  Sophomore Laura Beckler (Richmond, VA/Atlee) lined up for a corner kick and then got the ball back.  Her shot beat the keeper, but a defender was there to knock it away, keeping it a tie game.

As the Lady Royals found their groove, they had other good looks in the second.  Beckler, Erica Detweiler (Hickory, NC/Fred T. Foard), and Kori Wenger (New Holland, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) each put a shot on goal but the Yellow Jacket's keeper, Briana Housekeeper, was good for the save each time.

Beckler had once last chance in the closing minutes of regulation, but had a shot saved with just 1:47 left.

Each team had a few looks in the first overtime session, but neither scored.  Randolph-Macon, however, had a quick answer in the second OT, scoring in the first minute of the final session off a deflection to steal the 2-1 decision.

Although EMU was out-shot 22-7 in the game, the women had a 6-5 edge during the second half.  Jenni Beck (Archbold, OH/Archbold) made 11 saves for the Royals, her third double digit effort of the season.

Beckler led the offense with three shots on goal, which was half of their total.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Lady Royals, as they host Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon.  Game time in Harrisonburg is 4:00pm.
