Soccer Women Return Home But Tripped Up By VWC

Box Score

Playing in Harrisonburg for the first time in more than two weeks, the Eastern Mennonite women's soccer team hosted Virginia Wesleyan Saturday night.  The powerful Marlins didn't allow the Lady Royals much welcome in the return home, topping EMU 2-0.

Virginia Wesleyan scored early, taking the lead in the 11th minute.  Five minutes before halftime, the Marlins scored again after a loose ball in front of the net.

Hoping to utilize a counterattacking setup, the Lady Royals had a few chances that came up short.  Junior Kori Wenger (New Holland, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) was stopped by VWC's keeper in the 10th minute.

In the 63rd minute, Raquel Stoltzfus (Bellefontaine, OH/Bellefontaine) put a shot on goal.  Laura Beckler (Richmond, VA/Atlee) later sent a free kick just above the cross bar.

Those were the only shots for the women, as they were out-shot 20-3 in the loss.  Jenni Beck (Archbold, OH/Archbold) finished with eight saves in the net.  EMU also had a team defensive save on another shot from the Marlins.

The Lady Royals are now 0-7 and 0-1 in the ODAC.  They are on the road next Tuesday, playing at Randolph-Macon.
