Box Score With a chance to equal last season's win total and defeat Interim Coach Lauren Reznik's alma mater, the women's volleyball team came up just short Tuesday night in a 3-0 loss at Roanoke.
The Lady Royals quickly discovered Roanoke's presence at the net in game one and lost 25-16.
Eastern Mennonite's attack regrouped by game two and stepped up their play, but so did the Maroons. Both teams hit .280 or better as the home team took a 25-20 decision.
Roanoke was on a roll in the third and grabbed a 25-19 clincher.
Senior Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) led the way for EMU with a match high 11 kills. Kyla Moorefield (Danville, VA/Tunstall) added five kills and a pair of solo blocks.
Libero Brittany Childress (Gloucester, VA/Christchurch) topped all players with 12 digs. Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, KS/Goessel) had 16 set assists while Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) and Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) each had a pair of service aces.
The loss drops EMU to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC after their conference opener. The Lady Royals play their next four matches at home, starting this weekend with Randolph on Friday and Lynchburg on Saturday.
