Box Score Just like that, the Lady Royals have a two-game winning streak. Eastern Mennonite's women picked up their first win Saturday over Emory & Henry, then easily took care of Sweet Briar Tuesday afternoon in Harrisonburg, 4-0.
After dominating the opening minutes, the Lady Royals finally broke through in the 24th. Sophomore Taylor Wenger (New Holland, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) pushed up the right side and was held by an SBC defender. Many of the Vixen expected a whistle and stopped running, but the official allowed play to continue since Wenger still had advantage. She dribbled in and hit the bottom right of the net from close range, making it 1-0.
Despite out-shooting the Vixen 20-1 in the half, including a Chaska Yoder (Plain City, OH/Jonathan Alder) shot which hit the crossbar, the women had to settle for the one-goal lead at the break.
The Lady Royals added their second goal 9:31 into the second, when Michelle Miller (Sarasota, FL/Sarasota Christian) tapped in a shot after a corner kick. Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) got the assist.
Wenger then sliced through the Vixen defense and scored her second of the game in the 69th minute, making it 3-0.
Kennel added a penalty kick with 2:05 remaining after Raquel Stoltzfus (Bellefontaine, OH/Bellefontaine) was taken down in the box to produce the final margin.
EMU had a big 34-2 edge in shots, including 17-2 in shots on goal. The women also took nine corners to none for their visitors.
Jenni Beck (Archbold, OH/Archbold) had a pair of saves in her second straight shutout. Seanne Weekes had 13 stops for the Vixen.
The Lady Royals, 2-10 overall and 2-4 in the ODAC, take their two-game winning streak back onto the EMU Turf Field this Thursday when they host Catholic at 7:00pm.
