Box Score Despite a solid win in game one, the EMU volleyball didn't have enough to finish off the match Tuesday. Visiting Hollins took over momentum in game two and grabbed a 3-1 decision from the Lady Royals.
Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) was honored as the lone senior before the match and she helped lead the women to a 25-17 win in game one, landing three kills.
Eastern Mennonite played from a couple of points down in game two before tying the score at 17-17. The teams traded points all the way to 22-22, when Hollins scored three quick points to steal a 25-22 win.
The Lady Royals scored the first two points in the third game, but Hollins rattled off five straight to break off a 9-9 tie. The run tilted momentum fully to the visitor's side and they closed the game on a 16-7 streak, winning 25-16. Game four was all Hollins, 25-12.
Bowman led all players with 12 kills. With the effort on Senior Night, she took over eighth place on EMU's all-time kills list at 805.
Kyla Moorefield (Danville, VA/Tunstall) added seven and Jillien Puster (Mechanicsville, VA/Middlesex) put down five. Outside hitter Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) played in game four, her first action since Oct. 5, and tallied three kills.
Setter Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) finished with a double double of 26 assists and 12 digs. Brittany Childress (Gloucester, VA/Christchurch) had 14 digs.
Serving made a big difference in the loss, as EMU had 16 service errors and gave up 10 aces to Hollins.
Eastern Mennonite slides to 6-17 after the match, including 0-9 in the ODAC. The women step out of conference play on Thursday when they travel to Southern Virginia.
