Playoff Hopes Take A Hit In Loss At Randolph

Box Score

Looking for a win in the battle to reach the ODAC Tournament, the EMU soccer women played at Randolph Tuesday night.  The WildCats dealt the women's hopes a severe blow, handing Eastern Mennonite a 3-1 loss.

Although the Lady Royals took the first shot in the game, Randolph established quickly how well it would play on its home field, firing seven shots in the opening 20 minutes.

Finally in the 41st minute, the WildCats cracked the scoreboard with a goal from a through ball on the right side.

Neither team did anything for the first four minutes of the second half, until Randolph struck again after another through ball and nice move in the 50th minute.

The Lady Royals started to put more pressure on the offensive end, but the WildCats made it 3-0 on a rebounded shot in the 70th minute.

Two minutes later Taylor Wenger (New Holland, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) finally got EMU on the board.  After making a long run, Wenger flipped the ball around the keeper and into the net, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Eastern Mennonite had three shots and pair of corner kicks over the final 18 minutes, but couldn't overcome the deficit.

Randolph had a 21-16 edge in shots, including 12-7 on goal.  The Lady Royals had a 5-2 advantage in corners.

Taylor Wenger and sister Kori Wenger (New Holland, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) each had four shots in the loss, as did Lanae Kreider (Harrisonburg, VA/Broadway) off the bench.

Keeper Jenni Beck (Archbold, OH/Archbold) finished with nine saves in goal.

The loss drops EMU to 2-14 overall and 2-7 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  Randolph got its second conference win.  Both teams stand behind eight-place Emory & Henry at 3-5-1.  The Lady Royals play at Guilford this Saturday, needing a win to keep their postseason hopes alive.
