Bridgewater Shuts Out Lady Royals In Harrisonburg

Box Score

The Lady Royals played their final home game of 2011 Wednesday, hosting rival Bridgewater College.  The Eagles eased in two goals, one of each side of halftime, to take a 2-0 win from the women on a wet night in Harrisonburg.

Play was even in the early parts of the game as the two teams tried to get a feel for the wet turf.  BC started to take over late in the half, and took a 1-0 edge with 1:01 to go before the half, getting a long goal from Brittany Harris.

The Eagles came out aggressively in the second, and added their second score ten minutes in on a breakaway goal from Sarah Conner.

As a mist redeveloped late in the game, neither team would score again, leaving the visitors with the win.

Eastern Mennonite keeper Jenni Beck (Archbold, OH/Archbold) faced 20 shots and came away with 11 saves.  It was the fifth time she has hit double digits this season.  The defensive line also had a nice save in the second half to deny another goal.

Taylor Wenger (New Holland, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) and Kala Yoders (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) had the only shots for the Lady Royals.

The women slip to 2-13 with the loss, including 2-6 in ODAC play.  With a couple of wins in their final three games, EMU has a chance to earn a berth in the ODAC Tournament.  That push will start next Tuesday, Oct. 18, with a game at Randolph.  Matches at Guilford and Hollins close the regular season.
