Box Score The Eastern Mennonite women have their third two-game winning streak of the season and have bumped their record over .500 for the first time after Thursday night's 74-49 thumping of Mary Baldwin on the road. The Royals never trailed as all 11 women in uniform scored at least two points, pushing EMU's record to 6-5.
Playing their second road game in three nights, the women scored the first six points of the contest. They methodically pushed the lead to 15, as Jennifer Blankenship (Bassett, Va./Bassett) drained a three pointer to make it 19-4.
The Fighting Squirrels cut the lead down to five points, but EMU ended the half on a 10-2 tear to lead 39-26 at the break.
The cushion never got back below double digits and the Royals scored the final nine points to close with their biggest lead of the night, 74-49.
Eastern Mennonite earned the win by forcing 28 MBC turnovers. The women also made 36 trips to the free throw line, hitting 20 of 36. The Fighting Squirrels were just 4-6.
Danielle Rittenhouse (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) had 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Sara Lamneck (Swoope, Va./Buffalo Gap) finished with nine boards and eight points.
The Royals got 44 points from their bench led by Shandell Taylor (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) and her 11 points and four steals. Bianca Ygarza (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) had nine points and six rebounds. Marla Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) added eight counters.
Denise Johnson led Mary Baldwin with 19 points, as they fell to 2-8 on the season.
Eastern Mennonite, 4-2 in the league, has the weekend off before hosting last year's Old Dominion Athletic Conference champions, Washington & Lee. Game time next Tuesday in Harrisonburg is 7:00pm.
