Box Score The Eastern Mennonite women's soccer team hit the road to take on the team picked No. 2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, Washington & Lee. The Lady Royals kept their hosts out of goal for most of the game, but a five-minute span made the difference in a 2-0 win for the Generals.
Washington & Lee came out strong, firing five shots in the first 19 minutes of play. But EMU's defense was solid and kept the game scoreless.
But in the 24th minute, the Generals finally broke through as Jasmine Soo hit the game's first goal. In the 29th minute, Allie Espina scored again for the hosts, producing the final two-goal deficit.
Eastern Mennonite was outdone 7-3 in shots on goal. Melissa Miller (Bradenton, Fl./Lakewood Ranch), Erica Detweiler (Hickory, NC/Fred T. Foard) and Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) took the only shots on goal for the Lady Royals.
Keeper Abby Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) made five saves for the women.
Eastern Mennonite slips to 1-6-1 with the loss, including 0-3 in ODAC play. Next up for the Lady Royals is a pair of nonconference game as they host Shenandoah Tuesday night and play at Catholic on Thursday.
