Box Score Desperately in need of a win Wednesday night at Sweet Briar, things looked to be going Eastern Mennonite's way. The Lady Royals took a two games to one lead in the contest, only to have the Vixen grab two straight to hand the women a five-set loss.
The Lady Royals started off on the right foot, grabbing a 25-21 win in set one. But the Vixen fought back and extended the second set before grabbing a 33-31 win.
EMU retook the momentum with a 25-19 third set win. Sweet Briar had the answer again, however, winning set four 25-21 and then stealing the match with a 15-9 score in the fifth set.
Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) led all players with 19 kills and tied for the match high with 18 digs. She also had four block assists. Rachel Lehman (Chambersburg, Pa./Shalom Christian Academy) also had 18 digs and three service aces.
Elisa Troyer (Harrisonburg, Va./Broadway) added 13 kills while Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had 12 kills and 3.5 blocks.
The hard-luck loss extends EMU's losing skid to 12, all coming after the women's season-opening victory over Salem. The Lady Royals, now 0-3 in the ODAC, get a breather before traveling to Randolph on Sept. 28.
