Box Score The Eastern Mennonite volleyball women wrapped up their three-match homestand Saturday with a conference date against Guilford. Both teams entered looking for their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of 2010, and the Quakers took the prize with a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Royals.
EMU scored first in set one, but Guilford used an 8-0 run to push out to a 20-10 lead. The closest the women could get from there was six points as the visitors staked a 25-16 win.
Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) drilled two straight kills to open the second set as the Lady Royals jumped up 6-1. The Quakers took control back with a 10-1 run, however, and ran to a 25-19 win.
EMU made a number of attacking errors to start set three and never regrouped to close out with a 25-8 score.
Burkholder was the only Lady Royal with a positive hitting percentage as she tallied nine kills. The senior also had two service aces and 2.5 blocks, including a pair of solo stuffs.
Julyanna Anderson (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) notched 15 assists and 10 digs.
The women slip to 1-11 on the season, including 0-2 in the ODAC. Next up for the Lady Royals is a road contest at Sweet Briar on Wednesday, Sept. 22.
