Women Pour In 73 Points In Big Win At Hollins

Box Score

Saturday at Hollins, the Eastern Mennonite women were looking to solve their offensive woes. After shooting a combined 24% and averaging 41.5 points in losses earlier in the week to Bridgewater and Roanoke, the Royals turned things around in hurry. The women shot a blistering 60% in the first half at Hollins and rolled away with a 73-58 win.

The two teams traded leads in the opening three minutes, before EMU took over. The Royals dropped a 15-2 bomb on Hollins to grab a 19-7 lead at the 13:58 mark of the half.

Hollins scored seven straight and eventually got back within three points, before the women scored a quick 10 straight. Jennifer Blankenship (Bassett, Va./Bassett) hit a three-pointer to cap the 10-0 run that took less than two minutes and pushed the edge to 35-20.

Brittany Snyder (Raphine, Va./Riverheads), playing in her first game of the season, put in a lay-up in the closing seconds of the half to five the women their biggest lead at the time, 44-27.

EMU shot a deadly 18-30 in the first 20 minutes for a 60% clip, while Hollins was only 10-32 for 31%.

The Royals led by as many as 25 in the second half and were never seriously challenged in the 15-point win.

The women cooled off in the second and finished 30-62 from the floor for 48%. They were also 7-for-17 from three point range for 41%. Hollins was just 33% for the game and 22% from long range.

EMU had a hefty 46-35 advantage in rebounds and added 11 steals.

Sara Lamneck (Swoope, Va./Buffalo Gap) led EMU with 13 points. She was also one of three players with six rebounds and one of four with two or more steals.

Kala Yoders (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) added 10 and six, along with three assists and a pair of steals. Snyder showed little rust on her jump shot and put in 10 points along with three blocked shots.

Stephanie Rheinheimer (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had eight points to go with team highs of three assists and three steals. Junior Marla Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) added nine points.

The win puts EMU at 3-4 overall and evens their conference record at 2-2. The Royals have a week off before hosting Virginia Wesleyan on Sat., Dec. 11, at 4:00pm.
