Fresh off their 3-0 sweep of Ferrum on Thursday, the Lady Royals stepped back onto the court Saturday afternoon, hosting Mary Baldwin as part of Homecoming Weekend. The women patiently kept control of the game and picked up their second consecutive sweep, topping the Fighting Squirrels 3-0.

Eastern Mennonite held a small lead most of set one and pushed it up to 22-17. Mary Baldwin made a late 6-0 run to grab a 23-22 lead, but the Lady Royals regrouped with the final three points to take a 25-23 victory.

Each team had short runs and small leads in set two. Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) had four kills in a 5-0 run which put EMU in the driver's seat 23-20. She later closed out the set with another kill, giving the women a 25-22 win.

The Lady Royals streaked to a 12-3 lead in set three and never looked back, sealing the win by a 25-12 score.

EMU had a trio of players notch double digits in kills, led by Bowman's match-high 13. Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) slammed down 12 kills in just 19 attempts while Elisa Troyer (Harrisonburg, Va./Broadway) had 10 kills.

Freshman Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, Ks./Goessel) set up the high-powered attack and picked up 33 assists.

EMU moves to 3-15 with the win and builds its first winning streak of the season. The women have little time to celebrate as they return to conference play Monday with a 7:00 match at Randolph-Macon.
