Box Score It's now been a week and a half since the Lady Royals last allowed a goal. The Eastern Mennonite women's soccer team made it three straight shutouts Wednesday afternoon with a 5-0 thumping of Sweet Briar College on the road. In their last three games, the women have outscored Shenandoah, Emory & Henry and Sweet Briar by a combined score of 9-0.
In the first half against the Vixen, EMU put on the "Wenger/Miller Show." Freshman Taylor Wenger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) scored goals in the 10th and 42nd minutes, getting assists from sisters Melissa Miller (Bradenton, Fl./Lakewood Ranch) and Michelle Miller (Bradenton, Fl./Sarasota Christian).
Midway through the second half, the rest of the Lady Royals joined the act.
Erica Detweiler (Hickory, NC/Fred T. Foard) scored her first goal in an EMU uniform in the 69th minute, taking an assist from Jenna Arneson (Staunton, Va./Riverheads). Detweiler then assisted Melissa Miller in the 75th minute.
Chaska Yoder (Plain City, Oh./Jonathan Alder) netted her first goal as a Lady Royal in the 79th minute to produce the final score, 5-0.
Eastern Mennonite had a commanding 27-6 advantage in shots, including 20-3 in shots on goal.
Senior keeper Abby Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) played into the 74th minute before giving way to freshman Jenni Beck (Archbold, Oh./Archbold). Beck made a pair of saves in the closing minutes.
Now 4-6-1 with a three-game shutout streak, the Lady Royals will get a big test Saturday when they host 9-3-1 Roanoke. The Maroons are 6-0 and on top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. EMU is 2-3 in the league.
The 7:00pm game is the nightcap for Eastern Mennonite's Homecoming Weekend. It is also Senior/Parent Recognition.
