Box Score 2 The Eastern Mennonite women's volleyball team wrapped up their 2010 campaign Saturday, playing a pair of matches in Arlington, Va. The Lady Royals opened with a tense 3-2 win over host Marymount before dropping a three-set match to powerful Susquehanna.

The women scored the first two points in set one before the Saints took over. The home used three big runs to take the game 25-15.
The Lady Royals had a 7-1 run early in set two to gain momentum. They kept it to the finish of a 25-20 decision and then rode it to a 25-17 win in set three.
Marymount responded by controlling set four and winning 25-14 to send the contest into a decisive game five.
EMU jumped to an 8-4 lead in the final game. The Saints tied the score at 9-9, however, and eventually had 11-10 and 12-11 leads.
A kill by Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) put the Lady Royals back on top, 13-12, and Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, Ks./Goessel) put down a kill to make it 14-13. Marymount fought off two different match-point serves before Burkholder closed out a 17-15 win with a service ace.
Burkholder had 13 kills on just 21 attempts in the match to go along with three solo blocks and two stuff assists. Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) had 16 kills and Elisa Troyer (Harrisonburg, Va./Broadway) added 10 kills.
Goertzen racked up 42 assists to go with six kills of her own. Libero Brittany Childress (Gloucester, Va./Christchurch) led all players with a whopping 32 digs.
Susquehanna 3, EMU 0
Box Score
The Lady Royals turned right around and returned to the floor to take on Susquehanna. Eastern Mennonite played well against the talented Crusaders but came out on the short end of a 3-0 sweep. Game scores were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-17.
Burkholder led the women with six kills. Bowman and Troyer each had five. Goertzen tallied 11 set assists and a pair of kills.
EMU wraps up the 2010 year with a record of 4-21. Burkholder and Troyer are seniors and have closed out their careers.
Burkholder will graduate with a number of marks on the career leaderboards. The middle hitter finishes fifth on the EMU list of career kills with 853. Burkholder averaged 2.29 kills per game and her career attack percentage of .245 is sixth all-time. She is also seventh with 253 total blocks, including 0.68 per game, and eighth with 373 games played.
