Box Score For the Lady Royals, Tuesday's date with Lynchburg really had no bearing on their postseason. Win or lose, Eastern Mennonite would take the sixth seed in the ODAC Tournament and play at Virginia Wesleyan. The Hornets, however, needed a win to clinch the regular season title. They got what they needed by a 3-0 score.
Lynchburg, which went to the Final Four of the national tournament last fall, jumped ahead early, netting a goal in the 7th minute.
The Lady Royals nearly got an equalizer in the 29th minute. Freshman Taylor Wenger (New Holland, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) sped by the LC defense but the goalie made a great save from short range to keep it 1-0.
The Hornets scored shortly into the second half and then added one more in the 85th minute for the final 3-0 margin.
EMU's offensive players found the going tough against Lynchburg's solid defense as they were limited to three shots. Keeper Abby Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) played well and finished with eight saves.
The Lady Royals, 7-8-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the ODAC, will now turn their attention to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. The women earned the sixth seed in the tourney by finishing the season 6-2-1 and will play at third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Game time for the match will be determined later this week. The Marlins beat EMU 3-1 when the two teams met during the regular season on Sept. 18.
