Box Score The Eastern Mennonite women's soccer team hit the road Tuesday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match at Bridgewater. Coming off Saturday's solid tie with Roanoke, the Lady Royals were hoping to continue their momentum, but the Eagles scored the first three goals and beat EMU 3-1.
Bridgewater had the edge in the first half, outshooting the Lady Royals 8-3 and grabbing a 2-0 lead.
As the women worked on putting their offense together in the second, the Eagles added a third goal on a counterattack.
Melissa Miller (Bradenton, Fl./Lakewood Ranch) got EMU on the board in the 66th minute. She caught the Bridgewater keeper off-guard with a long floater from 35 yards out that bounced in off the cross bar.
But that was all the Lady Royals could manage in the 3-1 loss.
Miller finished with two shots on goal. Laura Beckler (Richmond, Va./Atlee) and Erica Detweiler (Hickory, NC/Fred T. Foard) had the only other shots on goal.
Keeper Abby Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) finished with six saves.
The loss ends a four-game unbeaten streak and drops EMU to 4-7-2 overall, including 2-4-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Confernece. The Lady Royals are currently eighth out of 12 teams in the conference standings, with only the top eight making the postseason tournament. The women next play a rescheduled game at Catholic on Thursday. Game time is 4:00pm.
