Box Score The Eastern Mennonite University women's volleyball team was in Emory, Va., Friday night taking their fifth crack at a conference win. The Lady Royals played good in stretches, but fell to Emory & Henry in four games, 3-1, falling to 0-5 in league play.
The two teams battled evenly in game one, with the hosting Wasps getting an edge to win 25-18.
Sets two and three were the best of the night, with both going extra points. The Lady Royals had the push to grab the second game, 30-28. Emory & Henry took back the momentum in set three, 29-27.
The fourth set belonged to the home team, as they closed out EMU 25-11.
Freshman Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, Ks./Goessel) led the women with 18 assists, 13 digs and three block assists. She also dropped in a pair of service aces.
Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) had a team high 13 kills. Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) added nine kills, a solo block and two stuff assists.
Senior Elisa Troyer (Harrisonburg, Va./Broadway) had nine kills and five aces. Brittany Childress (Gloucester, Va./Christchurch) added 12 digs.
Eastern Mennonite slips to 1-14 with the loss, including 0-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Lady Royals return home with three matches next week, starting with Lynchburg on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Game time is 6:30pm.
