Guilford College was able to pull away on four straight free throws from Ann Seufer and Jasmine Wood to clinch a 64-57 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

The win pushes the Quakers over the Lady Royals in the ODAC standings with a mark of 9-12 overall and 8-8 in the conference. EMU drops to 12-9 on the season, 7-9 in the conference.

The Quakers received a 20 point performance from Tracey Croner while Lauren LeFevers came off the bench and added 12 points including a perfect 4-for-4 mark from the charity stripe.

The Lady Royals had a team-high 17 points from sophomore guard Brittany Snyder (Raphine, Va./Riverheads). Miranda Wolfe (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) was 5-of-6 from the field for 11 points.

Both teams came into this game following tough ODAC losses the night before. EMU had dropped a contest to Emory & Henry College while the Quakers were defeated by Bridgewater College. Guilford and Eastern Mennonite both looked like they had played the night before as each team came out sluggish with the Lady Royals scoring their first basket of the game at the 15:49 mark (7-2).

The Quakers held a slim advantage until the 12:02 point in the first half when a 6-0 swing by the Lady Royals was capped by a Addie Bashorun (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) long ball (11-9). Croner followed with a jumper, putting Guilford back on top as the two teams battled through four ties until EMU pulled ahead by six on three-pointers from Marla Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) and Bashorun.

With the home team up by six it was the Quakers turn to mount a comeback as Croner and Wood led the charge, scoring five unanswered points to make the score 25-24. A jumper by Alexa Williams gave GC a 28-25 lead heading into the locker room.

Bashorun scored eight points off the bench for EMU in the first half. Croner had 10 points in the stanza for Guilford.

In the second frame neither team was able to build more than a three point cushion until the 10:59 mark when a jumper by Williams and a three from Seufer put the visiting squad up 47-42. The Quakers never relinquished the lead from that point on even with the Lady Royals moving to only one point of tying the contest on two different occasions. With Guilford up 47-44, EMU got a basket from Danielle Scott (Summit,NJ/Summit) only to have the Quakers answer on a Croner layup. The Lady Royals then marched down the court, hitting another jumper, with Guilford again following with a bucket from LeFevers. With the EMU offense sputtering, Guilford was able to build a seven-point lead as Seufer, LeFevers, and Wood each hit both of their attempts from the charity stripe in the final minute of the game to ice the win.

Williams had nine points. Seufer finished with eight points and two rebounds.

Scott had nine points and five rebounds for EMU while Young had six points and six boards in the loss.

EMU will look to snap their ODAC losing streak next week as the Lady Royals host the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday, February 10, at 7 p.m.
