Randolph-Macon College will advance to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Semifinal round after defeating the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team 86-68 Thursday night in Salem, Va.

EMU ends the 2008-09 season with a 13-13 overall record and a 8-12 mark in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon improves to 21-5 overall and will play the winner of the Guilford College versus Virginia Wesleyan College game.

All-ODAC Second Team award winner Brittany Snyder (Raphine, Va./Riverheads) had a team leading 14 points to go along with six rebounds. Danielle Scott (Summit, NJ/Summit), who was also named to the All-ODAC Second Team, and junior guard Melissa Lewis (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) each had 12 points.

Sophomore guard Addie Bashorun (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) had a career-high 13 points off the bench.

Randolph-Macon was paced by ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar Athlete of the Year Amanda Hiltunen who led all scorers with 18 points. Forward Lindsey Riesbeck scored 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field while ODAC Player of the Year Molly Ariail registered 12 points and five rebounds.

The game was a tale of two halves as the Lady Royals shot only 30 percent from the floor in the first half (10-of-30) compared to a stellar 57 percent (15-of-26) in the second half. EMU outscored Randolph-Macon 43-41 in the second half as the Yellow Jackets shot 15-of-36 (41 percent). Randolph-Macon was able to withstand the late charge by the Lady Royals after building a 20-point lead at the half (45-25).

In the first stanza, EMU fell behind by four as Randolph-Macon dropped in a pair of buckets before the first minute was up. The Lady Royals continued to battle the Yellow Jackets for most of the half as several attempts by Randolph-Macon to increase their lead to double figures was met with a responce by EMU. Scott and Bashorun led the team with eight and six points respectively in the half.

The Yellow Jacket fans that made the trip to Salem finally saw their team pull ahead late in the first as a 10-0 run materialized behind the sharp shooting of the RMC guards. Molly Brown had four points of those 10 points. Freshman guard Julie Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) scored the final bucket for EMU just before the end of the half to make the score 45-25, RMC.

The Yellow Jackets continued to control the ball in the second half as Randolph-Macon built a 27-point lead (54-27) and never looked back. EMU got as close as 75-57 before the Yellow Jackets pushed their lead back up to 24, capped by a long ball from Maggie Roy.
