Women's Basketball Snaps Losing Streak with 89-61 Win

Sophomore guard
Brittany Snyder (Raphine, Va./Riverheads) scored a team-high 18 points as the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 89-61 conference win over Hollins University Saturday afternoon.
The win pushes the Lady Royals record to 12-10 overall and 7-10 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. EMU now sits seventh in the conference and has two more wins than eighth place foe Lynchburg College. The top eight teams reach the ODAC Tournament, being held in Salem, Va., at the Salem Civic Center.
Sophomore guard
Addie Bashorun (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) tied a career-high with 11 points.
Brieana Burrs (College Park, Md./Montrose Christian) had a personal best nine points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
Marla Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial),
Danielle Scott (Summit, NJ/Summit), and
Bebhinn Egger (Front Royal, Va./Homeschooled) each had eight points for EMU.
Hollins was led by Tamara Phillips who paced all scorers with 22 points. Phillips had a team best six assists and six steals.
Emily Long was 8-of-10 from the field for 19 points for HU.
The Lady Royals never trailed in the contest as a jumper by Young gave EMU the lead for good at the 19:10 mark. Junior guard
Melissa Lewis (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) followed with a three-pointer as the Lady Royal lead grew to five (7-2, 18:10). The advantage grew to double figures as a pair of threes from Snyder and two free throws from Bashorun put the score at 17-6. EMU headed into the half with a 54-19 lead.
Lewis finished with three points and four assists.
Freshman guard
Julyanna Anderson (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) had seven points in seven minutes for EMU.
The Lady Royals next contest will be on Tuesday, February 17, when they travel to Lexington, Va., to take on the Generals of Washington & Lee at 7 p.m.
