Randolph-Macon Drops EMU, 74-51

Molly Ariail led all scorers with 19 points as the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets claimed a 74-51 road win over the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team Tuesday night in Harrisonburg, Va.
Randolph-Macon improves to 17-5 overall on the season, 14-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The loss drops the Lady Royals to a 12-10 mark overall, 7-10 in the conference.
"Turnovers and just not getting a basket to fall our way really hurt us tonight," commented head coach Kevin Griffin following the game. "We played hard, again, but there is a reason that team is first in the nation in three-point shooting and they showed it tonight. They're a well coach, smart team that has a lot of great pieces, from their guards to their post players."
Ariail was the only Yellow Jacket to reach double figures, but Amanda Hiltunen and Katie Williams each registered nine points. Williams was 3-of-3 from behind the arc while Hiltunen had a team best seven assists.

Miranda Wolfe (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) had a team-high 10 rebounds while
Marla Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) tied a career-high with 12 points to go along with a personal best seven rebounds.
The Lady Royals hung with the Yellow Jackets throughout the early part of the first half. Down 16-6 with 13:55 on the clock, EMU strung together a 4-0 swing on baskets by
Melissa Lewis (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) and
Julie Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial). Randolph-Macon responded with Williams hitting a long ball to boost the visiting team's advantage back up to 10. The Yellow Jackets then closed out the half hitting three straight free throw shots to put the score at 41-25 as they headed into the locker room.
Ariail and Williams each registered nine points for Randolph-Macon in the first frame.
In the second half, EMU cut the deficit to 14 as sophomore guard
Addie Bashorun (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) hit both attempts from the charity stripe. Randolph-Macon again responded and quickly pushed their margin to 18 on back-to-back layups by Riesbeck and Hiltunen. The Yellow Jackets continued to pour on the offense throughout the remainder of the half with Ariail leading the charge, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the second stanza.
Lewis finished with six points, seven rebounds, and five assists for EMU.
The Lady Royals will head on the road this coming Saturday, February 14, for an ODAC game again Hollins University. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
