Danielle Scott (Summit, NJ/Summit) and Miranda Wolfe (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) each scored 12 points to lead the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team to a 82-47 defeat of Hollins University Saturday afternoon.

"It's always good to get an conference win, especially coming off a long break," commented head coach Kevin Griffin. "Both teams played hard, and they (Hollins) are well coached. We tried to work on a few things that we haven't done as well in the past month. Now we're just looking to get healthy and see what happens."

The Lady Royals improve to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Hollins falls to 0-7, 0-3 in the conference.

Brittany Snyder (Raphine, Va./Riverheads) came off the bench to add another 11 points to the EMU attack. Melissa Lewis (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) had six points, five assists, and four steals.

Tamara Phillips led all scorers with 22 points and along with a team high seven assists. Emily Long chipped in 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Today's game was the first for both squads following Christmas break and it showed early on in the contest. Through the first two minutes, only the Lady Royals had put up points on the board and that came on a single bucket from Scott and a free throw by Wolfe. The Lady Royals added on 13 more points to go on a 15-0 run to start the game until a Long layup put HU on the board.

EMU continued to work inside as Addie Bashorun (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) and Megan Grove (Greencastle, Pa./Shalom Christian) each added a layup. Back-to-back baskets by Scott and another layup by Marissa Green (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) put EMU up 23-4.

The second half showed a resurgent Hollins team cut the deficit down from 32 to 23 as Candace Berra scored two of her four points to make the score 48-25. The EMU offense, led by five points in the second half from Marla Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) and Julyanna Anderson (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) proved to be too much for Hollins to overcome as the Lady Royals went back up by 32 on an Anderson jumper with just over 11 minutes remaining.

Bashorun finished with seven points, four rebounds, and a career-high four steals for EMU.

Allison Kibler had five points, five rebounds, and four assists in the loss for Hollins.

The Lady Royals will now head on the road as they take a 15-minute trip down to Bridgewater, Va., on Tuesday, January 6 to take on the Eagles at 7 p.m.
