Double-doubles by sophomore center Danielle Scott (Summit, NJ/Summit) and junior guard Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md./Western) helped to propel the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team to a 69-56 conference win over Lynchburg College Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Lady Royals now stand at 12-4 on the season, 7-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Lynchburg drops to 7-10, 5-7 in the ODAC.

Scott led all scorers with 17 points while grabbing 10 boards. Dennis recorded 15 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists for EMU.

The Hornets were paced by 13 points from Dana Esposito. Kristina Darby (12 points) and Kylie Lucas (11 points) also scored in double figures for Lynchburg.

Neither team was able to build more than a four-point advantage through the first six minutes of the game as a 3-0 run by Lynchburg to start the contest was immediately answered by the Royals as a long ball by Dennis tied it up. A Megan Grove (Greencastle, Pa./Shalom Christian) layup gave EMU a six-point lead (18-12, 12:19), but the Hornets stung back with an 8-0 run, capped by a jumper from Carly Greenlief.

The momentum and lead swung back to the home team in the final minutes of the half as EMU built a four-point advantage thanks to another Dennis three with 18 seconds remaining. The two teams headed into the locker room with EMU clinging to a 33-29 lead.

Esposito and Dennis each had 10 points for their respective squads in the first half.

Two free throw shots by Dennis opened up the scoring in the second half and pushed the EMU advantage to seven points. The Hornets tied it two minutes later as Brittany Dahn and Danielle Miller contributed a basket each. The home team then went on a 6-0 swing in the next two minutes to put the score at 43-37 in favor of the Royals. As the clock struck 11:07, freshman guard Julie Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) dropped in her second three-pointer of the season to put the Lynchburg deficit at nine (48-39).

EMU continued to pour on the offense, and after a brief Lynchburg rally, the Lady Royals reached a double digit lead on a Addie Bashorun (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) layup. The margin grew to 16 points with just under a minute remaining, all but sealing the win for the home team.

Miranda Wolfe (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) had 13 points and five rebounds. Julie Young and Bashorun each finished with seven points off the bench for EMU.

The Lady Royals next contest will be on Wednesday, January 28, as they travel to Ashland, Va., to take on the top-seeded Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
