Junior forward Miranda Wolfe (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) had a career-high 17 points as the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team snaps a two-game conference losing streak with a 74-59 win over Randolph College Friday night.

The win pushes the Lady Royals record to 11-4 on the season and 6-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Randolph falls to 1-12 on the year, 1-10 in the conference. There were no other conference games scheduled for today.

Wolfe added a team best eight board, a block, and two steals to her line against the WildCats. Danielle Scott (Summit, NJ/Summit) led the team with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.

Randolph was paced by 21 points from Katie Rechnitzer. Michelle Brockman (11 points) and Lindsay Cross (10 points) also scored in double figures for the WildCats.

"We got to the free throw line tonight and our rebounding was much improved from the past two games," explained head coach Kevin Griffin as the Lady Royals headed back to Harrisonburg. "For us to out-rebound a solid, fundamental team like them (Randolph) is a big step for us. I was really pleased with our effort, how hard we played on the defensive side, and the amount of production we got off our bench tonight."

A back-and-forth first half saw the two teams head into the locker room tied at 27 as neither squad was able to build more than a seven-point advantage. Randolph pulled ahead 15-8 at the 12:31 mark only to have the Lady Royals storm back and take a 22-16 lead with just over four minutes remaining. That six-point advantage dissipated to only two with 1:54 left to play in the first with each team answering the other with a bucket. With the score 27-24 Randolph, sophomore guard Addie Bashorun (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) hit the game-tying three as time expired in the half.

Bashorun scored six points off the bench for EMU in 26 minutes of play. Marla Young (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) scored eight points while both Young and Brieana Burrs (College Park, Md./Montrose Christian) each grabbed five rebounds.

EMU went ahead for good in the second half on a jumper by Brittany Snyder (Raphine, Va./Riverheads) with 19:08 on the clock. Back-to-back baskets by Wolfe and Scott put EMU up by six (35-29) before the WildCats could answer. EMU maintained at least a two-possession lead until a Rechnitzer layup with 13:34 left cut the Randolph deficit to only two (39-37). A layup plus one from Wolfe swung the advantage back up to five (42-37) with Bashorun dropping in her second long ball of the night. The Lady Royal offense continued to run on all of its cylinders as EMU added six more unanswered points to push the margin to 51-37. Randolph closed the gap to only eight points at the 2:07 mark, but the EMU offense proved to be too much for the WildCats to overcome as four straight free throws sealed the win for the visiting team.

Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md./Western) and Melissa Lewis (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) each registered eight points on the night with Dennis grabbing six boards.

Kristen Blalock had seven points and six rebounds for Randolph.

EMU will rest up Friday night as the Lady Royals will welcome in Lynchburg College Saturday, January 24, for a 4 p.m., game before the EMU men's basketball team hosts Bridgewater College at 7 p.m.
