Katrina Goering (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) made her first collegiate goal stand out as the freshman midfielder gave the Eastern Mennonite University women's soccer team its second straight win with a 2-1 decision over Methodist University Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Royals now stand at 2-3 overall this season.

"I gave the girls a challenge to keep playing the way we have been and maintaining possession," explained EMU head coach Holly Hall. "They did that today and I'm just really proud of the way the whole team played as a unit."

EMU scored the games first goal with senior forward Katie Lamm (Newmanstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon Co.) leading the way with her third goal of the season.

Methodist, who had lost to host Roanoke College on Saturday, responded with Danielle Minichello tying the game up at one all.

Minichello's goal was scored with 20:06 remaining in regulation.

The game appeared to be headed into overtime until Goering gave EMU its second straight win of the tournament in the 87th minute for the 2-1 win.

EMU keeper Abi Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) registered four saves.

Shots were tied at 10. EMU held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Lamm and Goering were later named to the All-Tournament Team following the final game.

Next up for the Lady Royals is a match with the James Madison University club team on Wednesday, September 17, at 7 p.m.
