EMU Defeats Sweet Briar College in Women's Soccer

After starting the season 0-3 the Eastern Mennonite University women's soccer team has gone a perfect 4-for-4 as the Lady Royals defeated Sweet Briar College 6-0 on a brisk Tuesday night in Harrisonburg, Va.
EMU improves to 4-3 overall on the season and remains unbeaten in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference at 2-0.
Sweet Briar falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
"It was a good team effort all around tonight," commented third-year head coach Holly Hall. "I was pleased with the way the girls played and we are getting a few girls back who had been fighting the injury bug."
The Lady Royals scored a pair of goals in the first period with senior forward
Katie Lamm (Newmanstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon Co.) netting her fourth and fifth goals of the season.
Courtney Shifflett (Waynesboro, Va./Riverheads) assisted on both scores by Lamm with
Katrina Goering (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) helping out on the second goal.
In the second period the home team capped the scoring by adding four more goals.
Mattie Horning (Morgantown, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had a pair of goals while
Valerie Burton (Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) had a goal and an assist.
Burton's goal came in the 62nd minute of regulation and was assisted by
Christa Beckler (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee).
Junior
Mary Dunn (Dalton, Ohio/Central Christian) scored the first goal of her career in the 54th minute.
SBC keeper Seanne Weekes had 12 saves in the loss.
EMU will now take to the road as the Lady Royals do battle with the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m.
