Roanoke Takes Women's Volleyball Match in Three Over EMU

Roanoke College had their ten match winning streak snapped by Washington and Lee but visited Eastern Mennonite University and claimed the 3-0 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's volleyball action.
Match scores were 25-12, 25-12, and 25-20.
The Lady Royals fall to 4-9 on the season and 0-3 in the ODAC. Roanoke improves to 11-1 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.
The Maroons took sets one and two by holding the Lady Royals to just four kills in each. Equal distribution for Roanoke was the key to the first two sets as Catilyn Long used six different hitters to set up points for the visiting team.
Long finished the match with 29 assists.
Maggie Wagner led the Maroons with 13 kills to go along with five digs and an assisted block.
Set three was a completely different game for the Lady Royals as they fought the Maroons back and forth for the lead. Roanoke pulled away for a 13-10 advantage at one point, only to have EMU come back and tie the set at 13 all.
Roanoke was finally able to pull away at the 18th point as they went on a 4-1 rally to increase their lead to 22-19. EMU was able to gain one more point and get to within two points before the Maroons closed out the match.

Christine Bottles (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) tallied 14 assists for the Lady Royals.
Burkholder recorded five of her seven kills in set three.
Rebecca Breeden (Luray, Va./Page Co.) registered 12 digs to help spur the EMU defense.
Kelsey Largen had 10 kills and six digs for RC.
The Lady Royals next match will be on Wednesday, September 27, as they travel to Ashland, Va., to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
