Sophomore guard Ebony Dennis (Balitmore, Md./Western) had a team high 18 points as the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team gained a season sweep over Washington & Lee following a 62-46 win over the Generals in Lexington, Va., on Saturday, February 16.

The win gives the Lady Royals a 17-5 mark overall and a 13-4 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while Washington & Lee falls to 8-14 on the year and 7-10 in the conference.

"We got great minutes off of our bench today and our post players did a great job of keeping them off of the boards," said EMU head coach Kevin Griffin following the win. "We only had 14 turnovers, which for our fast style of play is very good, and our starters gave us their usual strong production."

Junior forward Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) chipped in 14 points along with a team high five assists with senior center Jolene Kratz (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) adding 11 points and nine rebounds in the win.

Kristen Krouchick had a big day for the Generals as she registered a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Bethany Ridenhour had another 11 points for W&L.

EMU never trailed in the game as Dennis put the visiting team up by three on a trey with only 33 ticks off the clock. The Generals hung with the Royals through the first 15 minutes of the game until a bucket from Riley and a three pointer from freshman guard Brittany Snyder (Raphine, Va./Riverheads) gave EMU a 10 point lead (30-20, 4:21 remaining). The Lady Royals went into the locker room with a 13 point lead as two more treys from Dennis helped to give the visting team their biggest lead of the contest at that point.

The visiting Lady Royals continued to maintain a double digit lead in the second half as the Generals fought to stay close. Washington & Lee got a big bucket from Krouchick with 8:42 to go to put the home team down only nine before another rally by EMU pushed the advantage back up to 12 with Dennis again lighting the net on fire from behind the arc. The sophomore guard finished the game 5-of-8 from three point range.

Snyder had nine points and two steals off the bench for EMU.

Amanda Kane had six points and seven rebounds in the loss for the Generals. The Lady Royals shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the floor compared to 36 percent (17-of-47) for W&L. EMU held a slight 35-31 edge in rebounds for the game.

The Lady Royals will now welcome in the defending ODAC Champions to Yoder Arena on Tuesday, February 19, as Randolph-Macon College comes to Harrisonburg, Va., for a 7 p.m. game.
