Katie Lamm (Newmanstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon Co.) scored the eventual game winning goal only 11 seconds after Bridgewater College tied the game as the Eastern Mennonite University women's soccer team claimed a 2-1 decision over their cross-town rivals Wednesday night.
EMU currently sits in fourth place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 5-2 record and a 7-5 mark overall.
Bridgewater drops to 4-9-1 on the season, 2-5 in the ODAC.
Lamm put the Lady Royals ahead in the 26th minute with her first score of the game, and ninth of the season, with an assist from
Mattie Horning (Morgantown, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite).
EMU controlled most of the first period as the Lady Royals held a 9-1 lead in shots, and a 2-0 margin in corner kicks.
In the second frame, the visiting Eagles came out firing as they got off three shots on goal within the first 10 minutes. BC finally broke through as the clock clicked down to the 88th minute with Ashley Anders tying the game at one.
With the ball at midfield, the Lady Royals and Lamm wasted little time as the senior forward stroked a shot from 20 yards out. BC keeper Cari Hensely jumped to deflect the ball, only to have it sail just outside of her reach.
It was the third two-goal game of the season for Lamm.
Abi Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had three saves in the win.
The win snaps the Lady Royals two-game losing streak against conference opponents. The previous two losses though were against
NSCAA regionally ranked teams, Washington & Lee, and Virginia Wesleyan.
Next up on the docket for EMU is a road game against the Maroons of Roanoke College on Saturday, October 18, at 3:30 p.m.
