The Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team improved to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference following a 86-23 win over Hollins University Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) scored a team high 21 points while pulling down seven boards in the win with senior guard Tara Jones (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) adding another 14 points and six assists to the Royals attack.

Emily Long led Hollins in points with eight and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

"It was a total team effort," commented EMU head coach Kevin Griffin. "We were not pleased with our defensive effort against Lynchburg and we really concentrated on that heading into this game."

Riley went 7-for-10 in a big first half for EMU as the junior forward recorded 14 points along with two steals. Jones had 11 points as the teams headed into the locker room with EMU up 52-13.

EMU switched to a zone defense in the second half with sophomore guard Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md./Western) collecting five steals, four of which coming in the second frame. Jones had four steals as the Royals collected a season high 21 overall.

Sophomore center Miranda Wolfe (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) had seven points and four rebounds while sophomore forward Lele Shumate (McDowell, Va./Highland Co.) had five points and seven rebounds off the bench for EMU.

The Lady Royals will stay at home as they welcome in the Generals of Washington & Lee on Tuesday, January 15, for a 7 p.m. ODAC game.
