Guilford College scored twice in the second half for the 2-1 win over the Eastern Mennonite University women's soccer team Saturday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match-up.

The loss drops the Lady Royals to 4-4-2 on the season and 2-3 in the ODAC. Guilford improves to 3-6 overall but 3-1 in the conference.

The Lady Royals took a 1-0 lead early on in the second half as freshman Shirlina McArthur (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) scored off an assist from sophomore Mattie Horning (Morgantown, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) in the 50th minute.

"Mattie hit the long ball up to Shirlina and she put it in from about 18 yards out in the right corner," according to EMU coach Holly Shifflett.

Guilford responded just before the 60th minute as Courtney Prince scored her second goal of the season on a loose ball in front of the goal. Micki Boulineau then put the Quakers ahead on a free ball from 40 yards out.

"It was a direct hit into the mid-upper 90 and we just couldn't reach it," added Shifflett.

"Our backfield played really well including Erin Reichart (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) and Kacie Ruark (Baltimore, Md./Western). Erin shut down their leading scorer and Kacie did a good job of winning the ball and pushing it forward."

The Lady Royals will return to the field on Wednesday, October 4, as they take on Hollins University at 4 p.m.
