Altice Leads Ferrum to 3-1 Women's Volleyball Win

Mindy Altice had a game-high 22 kills along with 12 digs for the double-double as the Ferrum Panthers defeated the Eastern Mennonite University women's volleyball team 3-1 Tuesday night.

Game scores were 30-20, 28-30, 30-16, and 30-23.

The Lady Royals are now 4-10 on the season while Ferrum improves to 8-5 overall.

Altice started off the match strong as she registered six kills in 11 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage along with three digs and a solo block.

Jessica Flanagan had another four kills in the first game and finished the match with 14 kills and three service aces for the Panthers.

EMU clawed back in game two as the Lady Royals were led the trio of seniors Courtney Miller (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite), and Megan Good (Quito, Ecuador/Prairie), along with freshman Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) who each registered three kills.

Good added two service aces while junior setter Sara Hoffman (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg) had nine assists and two aces for EMU.

Hoffman tallied 33 assists, nine digs, and five aces in the match.

The Panthers pulled away in the third and fourth games as Jessica Washburn and Jessica Walker each recorded double-digit totals in assists while Tiffany Walker added another four kills to the Ferrum attack. Walker had 27 assists while Washburn checked in with 25 for the match.

Good led the Lady Royals with nine kills. Miller, Burkholder, and sophomore Laura Stoltzfus (Parnell, Ia./Iowa Mennonite) each had another eight kills.

Freshman libero Jenny Blosser (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) collected 14 digs in the loss.

The Lady Royals next opponent will be Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Lynchburg College. EMU will take on the Hornets on Thursday, September 20, at 6:30 p.m.
