A steady down pour of rain throughout the game washed away the Lady Royals chances at continuing a perfect record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference as Roanoke College shut out the Eastern Mennonite University women's soccer team 2-0 Friday afternoon.
The Maroons improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC while the Lady Royals drop to 3-2-1 on the year and 1-1 in the conference.
Roanoke College got on the board in the first half as Meredith Grunewald scored off an assist from MacKenzie Garest to put the Maroons up 1-0 with 9:41 off the clock.
Margaret Houston added the second goal for RC at the 49:43 mark in the second half as she sneaked the ball past EMU keeper
Abigale Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) from 10-yards in front of the net.
Diffenbach had eight saves on the day for EMU.
The Lady Royals will now travel north as they take on Goshen College on Saturday, September 15, in Lancaster, Pa., on the campus of Lancaster Mennonite High School. The EMU men's soccer team will play at 4 p.m. against the Leaf's while the women's team will start at 6 p.m.
