#4 Virginia Wesleyan Defeats EMU Men's Basketball 87-60

Brandon Adair led Virginia Wesleyan with 22 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field as the Marlins defeated the Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball team 87-60 Wednesday night in Virginia Beach, Va., in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match-up.

The Marlins, which moved up to fourth in the nation in the latest D3Hoops.com poll, also received a strong performance from TonTon Balenga and Tyler Fantin. Balenga finished with 19 points, 10 of which came in the first period while Fantin had a team-high 11 boards and chipped in eight points.

The Royals were led by Jason Sager (Edinburg, Va.) who continued his march up the EMU record book with a team-high 17 points and five rebounds. The senior forward is currently fourth on the EMU career points list with 1,669 and needs 77 points to move into third place.

Junior guard Jered Lyons (Takoma Park, Md.) had 12 points and was 2-of-2 from behind the arc while junior Brad Parkes (Winchester, Va.) added another 14 points.

Freshman Austin Twine (Dublin, Va.) contributed six points while leading the team with five assists.

The Royals fall to 7-13 overall and 3-11 in the ODAC while the Marlins improve to 20-3 overall and 15-1 in the conference.

EMU returns home for a weekend double-header as the Royals host Emory & Henry on Saturday, February 10, at 6 p.m. and then host Guilford College on Sunday, February 11, at 3 p.m.
