Riley Scores 22 points as Lady Royals Hand Quakers 78-66 Loss

Sophomore forward Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va.) added to her 21 points yesterday with a team-high 22 points against Guilford College as the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team beat the Quakers 78-66 Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

The Lady Royals improved to 15-5 overall on the season and 13-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while Guilford falls to 7-14 overall and 6-10.

Riley has become a dominant scoring threat for the Lady Royals the past few weeks and has now raised her points per game average to 16.2. Her 22 points today are only three points behind her season-high of 25 set earlier in the season.

Jolene Kratz (Telford, Pa.) also had a strong game for the Lady Royals as the junior center went 8-of-10 from the field for 16 points. Freshman guard Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md.) had another nine points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the win.

Guilford was led by Brittany Bumgarner and Tracey Croner who each scored nine points in the first half for the Quakers.

Ann Seufer had a team-high 14 points off the bench for GC.

EMU led 47-27 at the break before Guilford mounted a comeback to start the second. The Quakers, which shot only 31 percent in the first half came out in the firing in the second with Ann Seufer leading the charge. Seufer came off the bench and nearly rallied Guilford back with a team-high 14 points, but the Lady Royals led by Riley with 10 points and Kratz with eight sealed the win for EMU.

Sophomore forward Kathleen Steele (Gainesville, Va.) had nine points and five rebounds for EMU.

The Lady Royals return to the court on Saturday, February 10, as they host Washington & Lee at 7 p.m.
