Royals Fall Short Against Roanoke 79-65

Ben Shrader came off the bench and scored 20 points to lead the Roanoke College Maroons to a 79-65 win over the Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball team Saturday night in Roanoke, Va.
The loss ends the Royals season at 7-17 overall and 3-15 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while Roanoke improves to 15-10 overall and 11-7 in the conference. The Maroons will be the number three seed in the tournament and will square off against Randolph-Macon which finished sixth in the ODAC.
Junior
Brad Parkes (Winchester, Va.) led the Royals in scoring with 18 points, pushing his career total to 1,017 points while pulling down a team best nine rebounds. Junior guard
Jered Lyons (Takoma Park, Md.) had nine points off the bench for the Royals.
Senior
Jason Sager (Edinburg, Va.), playing in his final game, recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists and helped spark a comeback by the Royals in the second half as he hit one of his two three-pointers on the day. Sager finishes his EMU career ranking fourth in career points (1,719), third in rebounds (884), and 10th in assists (226).
The Royals, who trailed 36-27 at the break, rallied behind the trey by Sager to close the Roanoke lead to one with 10:12 remaining on the clock. EMU though was unable to get any closer as Shrader hit two three-pointers to push the Maroon lead back up to seven.
Curtis Peery had 16 points and eight boards for RC with AJ Dowell adding another 10 points.
