Hiltunen and Ariail lead Randolph-Macon Past EMU 92-64

Amanda Hiltunen and Molly Ariail each scored over 20 points as the host Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackest defeated the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team 92-64 Tuesday night in Ashland, Va.

The Lady Royals see their seven-game winning streak snapped as they fall to 16-6 overall and 14-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while the Yellow Jackets improve to 19-4 overall and 16-2 in the conference.

Three Lady Royals scored in double-figures with sophomore forward Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va.) again leading the squad with 15 points. Freshman guard Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md.) had another 14 points and four steals for EMU on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.

Hiltunen and Ariail were too much though for EMU as they tallied 24 and 23 points respectively. Hiltunen was 9-of-10 from the field with a team-high six assists while Ariail had six rebounds and five blocked shots.

The Lady Royals trailed after the first half 48-27 with Hiltunen scoring 14 points by the break and Lindsay Riesbeck adding another six points for RMC. Riesbeck finished with 18 points and six rebounds while Marta Merkel had a team-high 10 assists for the Yellow Jackets.

Senior guard Tara Jones (Richmond, Va.) had 13 points and a team best four assists for EMU with junior center Jolene Kratz (Telford, Pa.) scoring eight points and pulling down five boards.

The Lady Royals will now travel to Roanoke on Friday, February 16, for an ODAC match-up with the Maroons. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
