Big First Half Gives Lady Royals 68-48 Win

The Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team shot 72 percent from the floor in the first half as the Lady Royals, behind sophomore
Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va.) and junior
Jolene Kratz (Telford, Pa.) defeated the Washington & Lee Generals 68-48 Saturday afternoon in Yoder Arena.
Riley keyed the Lady Royals attack in the first half as the sophomore forward poured in 10 points while recording two steals. Kratz added another six points for EMU in the half and finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Royals took a 41-26 lead into the break and maintained their tempo into the second half. The Generals were unable to chip away at the EMU lead which grew to 24 with less than four minutes remaining.
Freshman guard
Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md.) had another nine points for EMU which is now 16-5 overall and 14-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
The Generals were led by ODAC player of the week Jessica Hunsinger who tallied a team-high 13 points and two blocks. Emily Wolff chipped in seven points for W&L which now falls to 12-10 overall and 8-9 in the conference.
EMU guard
Dana Powell (Roanoke, Va.) had a team-high six assists in the win.
EMU now head on the road to take on Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14.
