The Eastern Mennonite University women's volleyball team came back from a two game deficit to defeat the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels 3-2 Sunday morning during the second day of competition at the Roanoke Classic.
EMU dropped their second match of the day against the University of Mary Washington in three games. Game scores were 30-17, 30-16, and 30-16. Game scores for the match against Mary Baldwin were 28-30, 28-30, 30-22, 33-31, and 18-16.
Freshman
Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) was named to the Roanoke Classic All-Tounament team following the match against UMW.
"It was a tough matchup against Mary Baldwin and after losing the first two games we decided to change line-ups," added EMU coach Steve Benson. "After the line-up change we started winning a few games and then pulled it out towards the end."
"
Tabitha Beales (Bealeton, Va./Liberty) gave us a real boost against Mary Baldwin in the front row and there was good effort from everyone. The Mary Washington match was right after the five-game match against Mary Baldwin and the whole team was just tired but they played hard throughout."
The Lady Royals will now host Shenandoah on Tuesday, October 9, for a 6:30 p.m. non-conference match-up.
