The Eastern Mennonite University women's volleyball team fell one game short of its comeback attempt as the Lady Royals were defeated in five games by Roanoke College after dropping the first two games of the match.

Game scores were 30-22, 30-22, 26-30, 16-30, and 15-12.

Freshman Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had a team high 24 kills along with two solo blocks for EMU with senior Courtney Miller (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) adding a double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs.

Junior setter Sara Hoffman (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg) had a season-high 55 assists along with 14 digs with sophomore Laura Stoltzfus (Parnell, Ia./Iowa Mennonite) tallying 19 digs while adding another nine kills to the EMU attack.

Freshman Jenny Blosser (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) led the squad with 27 digs.

"We played a very strong game overall and the team really fought through in the third game after falling in games one and two," added EMU coach Steve Benson. "Game five is already a short game where anything can happen but overall the team played one of its best matches this season."

EMU will welcome in Randolph College to Yoder Arena on Wednesday, October 24, for a 6:30 p.m. match.
