Junior Katie Lamm (Newmanstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon Co.) scored her first goal with only 13 ticks off the clock in the first half and added two more later in the game as the Eastern Mennonite University women's soccer team went on for a 7-1 decision over Emory & Henry College Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Royals improve to 9-5-2 overall and 6-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while Emory & Henry drops to 8-9-1 on the year and 2-8 in the conference.

Lamm put EMU up 1-0 in the first minute of the game as she served in her team leading tenth goal of the season on an assist from freshman Jordan Barkus (Millersburg, Pa./Millersburg). Lamm added two more goals in the half and is now ranked third in the conference in goals (12) and points (28).

EMU went into the break leading 5-1 with Barkus and Mattie Horning (Morgantown, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) tallying the other two scores for the Lady Royals.

Colleen Johnson recorded the lone score for Emory & Henry in the first half as she broke through the EMU defense for her third goal of the season.

The Lady Royals added two more goals in the second half as Jessica Myers (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) and junior Valerie Brubaker (Quarryville, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) added to the EMU total.

Myers scored with an assist going to Lamm after she served the ball up to Myers from midfield with the freshman forward dribbling past the E&H goalkeeper for the score. Brubaker headed in a ball of a corner by Lamm who recorded a career-high three assists.

"Katie played extremely well today and the team responded well in the first half by finishing scoring chances that we were not doing last week," commented EMU head coach Holly Shifflett. "We had worked on that (in practice) and they were able to finish off their chances today."

Freshman goalkeeper Abigale Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had two saves in the win.

The Lady Royals will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, October 23, as they host the Generals of Washington & Lee for a 4 p.m. ODAC game.
