Field Hockey Runs Winning Streak to Seven with 6-3 Win

The Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team ran its winning streak to seven games as the Lady Royals defeated Sweet Briar College 6-3 to ensure the number one spot heading into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament.
The win also guarantees EMU its ninth season with an unblemished conference record at 7-0. The last Lady Royal team to run the table was the 2000 squad which finished with a 16-5 overall record (11-0 in the ODAC) and a conference championship.
The Lady Royals will also be able to stake claim to homefield advantage throughout the conference tournament.
SBC falls to 2-12 on the season and 0-7 in the ODAC.
Against Sweet Briar the teams remained tied after the first 10 minutes of play as sophmore
Alyssa Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) and Sarah Goldstein of SBC each tallied a score.
The Lady Royals then opened up on offense as EMU recorded five goals with Derstine adding two more goals before the half. She is ranked second in the conference in goals (12) and third in points (27) while leading the team in those categories.
The Vixens cut the Lady Royal lead down to three in the closing minutes of the second half on goals by Erika Magee and Melissa Carron before the EMU defense squashed the comeback and preserved the victory.
Senior
Lauren Michel (Princess Ann, Md./Holly Grove Christian) had three assists for EMU with freshman
Linda Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) adding two more goals for the Lady Royals.
Junior
Kristina Landis (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) scored her third goal of the season in the contest with sophomore
Sarah Roth (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and freshman
Katie Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) recording assists for EMU.
Goalkeeper
Becky Nolt (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) had three saves in the win.
The field hockey team will now close out the regular season as they travel down to Norfolk, Va., to take on Christopher Newport on Tuesday, October 23, at 4 p.m. CNU is ranked fourth in the latest
