The Eastern Mennonite University women's soccer team ran its winning streak to three games as the Lady Royals gained a 1-0 victory over the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets Tuesday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.

The first half was a battle of possession as each time fought for control of the ball. EMU pushed into the Randolph-Macon zone but was unable to get past Yellow Jacket goalkeeper China Bradley.

Towards the end of the half EMU was finally able to break through as freshman Kacie Ruark (Baltimore, Md./Western) served the ball up to the 18-yard line for sophomore Valerie Burton (Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) who was able to beat Bradley to the left-side of the goal for the score.

The goal is the third of the season for Burton. With the assist, Ruark now leads the team with 20 points.

The Lady Royal defense then stepped up in the second half with senior Aubrey Bauman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), sophomore Susannah Wirick (West Liberty, Ohio/West Liberty-Salem), and freshman Erin Reichart (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) making several key saves while holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless.

Freshman goalkeeper Abigale Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had a save in the win.

EMU out shot Randolph-Macon 26-4 while holding a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lady Royals will now welcome in the Wasps of Emory & Henry on Saturday, October 20, for a 3 p.m. ODAC game.
